I haven’t seen Aronofsky’s Noah, and I don’t plan to. Here are a couple of reviews that explain why.
I’m a Christian and I think ‘Noah’ deserves a four star review – Matt Walsh summarizes the plot and lays out the movie’s misrepresentations of God, human nature, and justice.
Sympathy for the Devil – Dr. Brian Mattson explains where many of those misrepresentations come from: the Gnostic and Kabbalistic roots of Aronofsky’s cosmology.
In both reviews, it’s immediately clear that the movie is not a retelling of the Biblical story of Noah. It reuses Biblical names, and has a flood and an ark; that’s about where the similarities end.
The best way to explain why I don’t intend to see this movie will make sense only to fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Noah is to the Bible what the live-action Avatar movie was to the original animated series.
